This route will take you through one of Flevoland's oldest areas; the former island of Schokland.
The fascinating surroundings along this route are a real invitation to enjoy a varied tour of the dikes and waterside with views of the older landscapes. Over the Oud-Kraggenburg mound, following the wide meadows and fields, the route will lead you past herds of Highland cattle to Schokland, a UNESCO World Heritage site. When still an island this was a barren, marshy and inhospitable place. Eventually all 'Schokkers' abandoned their damp home for the comforts of the mainland, leaving little behind but an uninhabited island. The reclaiming of the Zuiderzee left Schokland ‘high-and-dry’. Today it is an ideal area for cycling tours. The only evidence of the former island’s 'coast line' is a long line of trees.

This cycling route starts and ends in Kraggenburg. En route you can enjoy something delicious to eat or perhaps cool off with a swim at 'Netl de Wildste tuin'.

Tip: the area is at its most colourful in spring (mid April - mid May), when both the tulip fields and the fruit tree blossoms are at full throttle.
